Getting to Know: Portfolio Analytics

John Hale, Portfolio Analytics Analyst

Want to know more about the folks who call Enova home? We asked Portfolio Analytics Analyst John Hale our five favorite “get to know you better” questions, and here’s what he had to say:

How did you come to work at Enova?

I first encountered Enova while looking for an internship at the Georgia Tech Career Fair early in 2014. Even getting to that stage was a struggle given Atlanta was essentially shut down majority of the winter due to snow — although it was admittedly not much by Chicago standards. After having a great internship in the summer of 2014, I went back to finish my degree in Industrial & Systems Engineering. I came back to Enova after my graduation in May.

What do you do at Enova?

I am a member of the Portfolio Analytics team, focusing largely on leads. Since I am newer to Enova, a large amount of my time is still spent learning about how Enova works, but day-to-day I can be found writing SQL, R and Python code.

What’s the best part of working at Enova?

I like how the ‘Best Answer Wins’ philosophy shapes work at Enova. Over the course of a project, the direction will occasionally change as you discover new trends. You really get a chance to explore any ideas you may have stumbled upon along the way while working.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

As a fan of large cities, Chicago isn’t that bad, but if I could pick anywhere, I’m tempted to move to Germany. For one, I have always been a fan skiing so living near the Alps would be fun. There is also a lot of history and culture, and plenty of cities to visit in Europe.

What are your top three desert island must-haves?

Well if I’m not allowed to cheat and just escape the island, the first thing that comes to mind is a dog. That would make life so much better! Other than that, some Internet access and a Swiss army knife.
