Anniversary Series: Jeff Bagnall
As Enova celebrates its 20th Anniversary, we will be sharing stories from some of our most tenured team members to highlight their contributions and reflect on the company’s journey.
Name: Jeff Bagnall
Years at Enova: 16 years
Starting Year: 2007
What were your first impressions when you started, and how have they evolved over time?
I loved how close the team was. That closeness still exists today — many Enova Tech alumni still keep in touch.
Can you discuss some of the roles you’ve held here and how your responsibilities have changed?
I was originally hired as a jack-of-all-trades individual contributor in a System Administrator role. I later decided to try people leadership and really enjoyed it. My career path took me farther down that route and I am currently a Senior Director.
What is your favorite Enova Value and why? Has it changed over the years?
My favorite value is Operate as an Owner. The concept has always existed at Enova, and really speaks to the culture. People are proud of the work they do here and treat the company as if it is their own.
What projects are you most proud of, and why?
When the pandemic started, the entire company quickly transitioned to fully remote. While we were equipped for people to occasionally work remotely, we were in no way ready to move the entire company remote for an extended period of time. Our team pulled together to make the move happen and rapidly deployed brand-new (to us) systems in order to enable this. Once the time came, the coordination and teamwork needed to make sure everything went smoothly was herculean. We heard horror stories of other companies that didn’t fare as well, but as a team, we handled those long days effectively and successfully transitioned the entire organization. Amazon AWS caught wind of our success story and featured Enova on their site.
How do you feel you’ve made a difference at Enova?
I helped create numerous teams and functions that exist today. For example, the TechOps team was originally formed on the back of a napkin as an idea, and now it’s an incredible team of about 20 people.
What is your favorite memory of your time at Enova?
I don’t have a specific memory, but I’ve always enjoyed the crazy all-nighters where our backs were against the wall, and we had to deliver or figure something out. I always had a great sense of pride once the launch happened, the issue was resolved, or the office was opened, etc.
Any advice for new hires starting their journey with us?
I’ve spent almost my entire career at Enova. I’ve seen many people (myself included) leave Enova and come back – the culture, the work and the people are absolutely amazing.
